Richard was the most laid back and modest star I've ever met. He always had time for a laugh and a joke, and the paddock will never be the same without him. | Message: Three of us sat on the ditch in Ballybunnion yesterday and witnessed the death of one of our heroes. Only a couple of hours earlier we sat a table away from him eating breakfast. "How's she cuttin'" I said to him, "All right and yourself" he replied. I was chuffed. Shortly afterwards we watched himself and Martin Finnegan stretched out on two deck chairs in the paddock chatting and laughing. We've seen him at road races all over the country and that's what we were used to seeing, a smiling, happy face. He touched us and we felt we owned a bit of him, I'm sure we're not alone with this feeling. I can't imagine how his wife, little Loris, his family and friends are feeling this morning.
