Message: Deepest sympathy to Maria,Loris, Willie,Margaret and all family and also to Richard's loyal team. Richard, you were a joy to watch on a racing bike, so smooth so clever so fast and so professional, a TT win was waiting for u next year. Your no 8 will never grace the roads again but the memories will live in our minds forever.I'v watched u racing since the start of ur career and always liked ur style and got to know you some years ago after an 'all night knees up' at the TT. I will never forget what an honest and good-craic friend u were to us that night. (I will never forget chasing seagulls down the prom at 4am either), and subsequently meeting you at every race meeting, you never failed to come and talk to us greeted by that warm friendly smile even if ur day went bad. Good bye big fellow and let that big golden warm heart of yours glow forever...for 8 is great. |

Message: I was watching the UGP from just before the first drop at the top of the Deers Leap in 2004. It was the first Superbike race (the second one was cancelled when time ran out) and Richard was running in 4th or 5th place, not far away from the leaders. On the last lap, he had a few second gap infront and several seconds behind, so he had a bit of time to play, what I saw I will always remember as a truly awsesome biking moment. Richard came around the right hander at the top of the Deers Leap flat out and lifted the front wheel up over the Leap until the bike was vertical, he stood up on the pegs and kept the bike at an impossible angle down the hill at an incredible speed. Such a stylish rider, such a nice guy. A Road Racing Legend! RIP |
